I traveled to Mexico last year and stayed at the Riu in Cancun. Nice Hotel but not that many people and things to do during the down season. When is a good time to go away with a freinds, (two single guys) and enjoy yourself. I'm looking for like five days four nights.

  1. I'm staying in the Riu Cancun in 2 days! My first time in Cancun.  If you want to go all out...i would book The Royal.  Its amazing from what I've seen on the net and in the magazine.  I just couldn't afford it.  It was about 300 more per person all inclusive.

I was recommended by my travel agent to stay at Riu Cancun.  He has been there many times.  It seems to fit our age (25).  However the Riu Palace is def. for the older crowd.

  2. Moon Palace, Great food. Beautiful places to visit.

  3. I spent time at the Riu Cancun during the middle of November, also considered to be the down time, and there were lots of people and acitivities. I say this because I am wondering when you were there because perhaps it was an even more down time, it that is possible in Cancun. I have been in Cancun in February as well, and found that the crowds were much less dense in comparison to most other months (I've been to Cancun 12 times). Anyway, during Memorial Day weekend is a crowded time to go and then it gets less busy until the end of June before it picks up again for the 4th of July. If you are considering going during the summer, you can expect to find people from all over the world including the UK, Argentina and of course Mexico.

Keep in mind that most of the All-Inclusive resorts will have families with children. This is because of the savings factor and the fact that families don't like to leave the resort grounds too often. Therefore you might be better off staying at a European Plan resort. Here are a few resorts you should consider.

    Hilton Golf & Spa Resort

Fiesta Americana Condesa-the FA Grand Coral Beach and the Aqua are the sister resorts.

    ME By Melia-boutique style

Gran Melia-this is the sister resort to ME By Melia, offers an All-Inclusive plan which you can purchase on the mornings of the days you want it. This is a great option, especially on days when you will be away from the resort, on days when you are there, get the AI.

Gran Caribe Real-AI resort with lots of people, The Royal in Cancun is the adults only AI sister resort next door.

Barcelo Tucancun-very clean, higher end of the Barcelo resorts.

Marriott CasaMagna-J.W. Marriott is the higher end resort next door.

As far as day trips, I also highly recommend that you avoid the Mayan ruin site of Chichen Itza and instead visit Tulum. I say this only because it seems like you have gone and will go back to Cancun again in the future. I therefore am trying to save you from the heat that you would experience at a Mayan ruin site that is located inland, and instead have you visit the site that is on the Caribbean Sea (Tulum). The site of Tulum is much smaller and seen in a half day, and is why it is coupled with a stop at an area eco park. I higly recommend that you and your friend choose the eco park of Xel-Ha instead of Xcaret. This is because Xcaret is much too large to see in a half day, and Xel-Ha offers an All-Inclusive meal plan which will save you lots of money. Finally, if you travel during the summer, you should plan on doing lots of activities in the water. This can include a snorkel tour, swim with dolphins, or a rare opportunity to swim with whale sharks. These are the biggest fish on the planet and they visit the area once per year, during the summer. You can do a search but this company offers the best cancelation/rescheduling policy and they also display their license number on their website:

    http://www.swimwithwhalesharks.com

You can find lots of other tours on the bottom of their site that are given by Dolphin Discovery. I highly recommend doing a dolphin swim on Isla Mujeres. The island is a great place to tour, on your own, after  your swim session.

    Have fun planning your vacation,
