  1. Make some home made egg noodles.  Beat one egg really well, splash in some milk, sprinkle in a little salt and add enough flour to make a stiff dough you can handle.  Roll the dough out onto a floured flat surface.  Cut it up with knife and then snip it into little bits about the size of your fingernail with a cleaned scissors.  Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.  Sieve or shake the noodles to get rid of the excess flour on them and put them in the boiling water.  When they rise to the surface and roll over they are done.  (Takes about 3-5 minutes).   This makes quite a lot and it is very good & filling.

You can serve this with diced tomatoes, butter & seasonings, or the traditional onion gravy.

To make onion gravy, fry some onions in a pan until they are golden brown & translucent, then add in 1 cup of light cream, milk or a can of evaporated milk.  Bring to a boil & remove from heat & serve.

For an easy, cheap dessert, you can make bread pudding.  Crumble up some old bread or dried bread crumbs into a buttered casserole dish or deep pan.  Beat one egg with 1/2 cup of milk, 1 tsp cinnamon & 1/4 cup sugar or brown sugar.  Pour over the bread crumbs and mix until they are well moistened.  Sprinkle some brown sugar and cinnamon over the top.  Bake for 20-30 minutes at 350 degrees F until top is golden brown.

One time I ran out of money for groceries and I lived for a week on a big bag of frozen veggies and a package of bouillion cubes and the stale bread I could get for 10 cents from the Salvation Army.  I just made veggie soup and toast every day.  It was boring, but I survived and had something to eat.

  2. go to a restaurant where bread comes free and order a plate to go.

  3. Chilli dogs are cheap! Hot dogs, buns, and a can of chilli I bet you can get it all for $5.00

Place in oven on 350' and let the tater tots brown.

Sprinkle with cheese; melt it in the oven

spaggitie is cheap too as is most pasta.

You could cook mac and cheese (cheap) and cruise the meat department for the meat that has been marked down to sell b 4 it goes bad. look for kielbasa, chicken, ground beef and you can add it to the the mac and cheese for some protein.

cheese and or bean quesadillas. A little shredded chesse and a spoon full of refried beans a little butter on the outside of the quesadilla and brown in a pan.

None of this is gourmet but it will feel and empty belly

  4. That's when I make stew or chili or spaghetti or soup.  You can throw all kinds of things in it and it will last for more than one meal.

  5. Chips

    Ingredients - potatoes (about £1.40 for 5 pounds/2.5kg)

    Peel potatoes

    Cut into chips

    Deep fry in oil

  6. Go to your local supermarket fairly late in the day and look at their 'marked down' section where they sell food really cheaply because it is on its 'sell by date'.  These offers are usually on sale all through the day but a couple of hours before the store closes for the day they mark them down again.  You might not have to eat something dull and boring if you do this.

  7. Here is a site that will teach you to stretch meat to last all week like a whole chicken.

    http://hubpages.com/hub/Stretching_Meat_...

  8. Value dried pasta from Tesco/Asda is 19p.

Make lots of healthy pasta dishes with store cupboard ingredients such as tuna, tinned tomatoes. Add any vegetables you can afford to buy- carrots are cheap.

Tinned beans such as canellini are very nutritious and very cheap.

so are chick peas to crush with garlic/oil for cheap hummus with bread

    Baked potatoes with baked beans/cheese

Make chilli con carne using soya mince- works out at about 30pence per panful plus about 20p for the kidney beans

Buy fruit that is in season at the local market/shops

Roast a chicken one day - have with the  usual trimmings

Have chicken in stirfry the next day- with instant noodles 9p pack

Have coronation chicken another day (chicken, mayo, curry powder) in baked potato

and finally make rissotto or chicken soap.

Eating cheaply doesn;t have to mean resorting to rubbish/junk- you can still be healthy

  9. Have you ever heard of ramen noodles?

  10. Bean soup.  Get a small bag of navy  beans or great northern dried beans.  Soak in water over night.  Next day add some ham if you have it, some onions, maybe some shredded carrot for color.  I sometimes put in a diced potato.  Cook the beans for several hours.  Recipe is on the bag.  You can flavor it with some chicken stock, butter, salt and pepper.  It goes a long way and makes a lot. I usually make 1/2 a bag for just myself.

  11. By a pack of mahatma Spanish rice (.99cents) prepare it as it says on package. Dice two tomatoes, and 1/4 cup of onion.(about 40cents for both items) saute tomatos and onion. add to the cooked rice. add chopped sauted weiners (2 bucks)  total cost $3.39

  12. Go to the grocert store and buy a bag of lentils, and follow the instructions on the back to make lentil soup.  VERY nutritious and filling.

Also, buy some rice (not instant) and a can of beans and a jar of salsa and a pint of sour cream.  Make the rice, add the beans, stir.  Add the salsa to taste.  Add sour cream to taste.   Also quite nutritious and very filling and cheap.

Finally, don't forget eggs.  Only 76 calories each, filled with nutrition and cheap.  Fried Egg Sandwich is filling and not too bad in terms of fat if it's just egg and bread.

  13. Rice and beans

Browm ric is super cheap and canned red beans are to!

Mix them together serve with spinach ( 1 dollar)

    Mac and cheese

a box of mac and cheese with some hot dogs ( no buns they cost to much)

    fresh tomatos ( really cheap)

    Spagetti with ketchup sauce

KEthcup sauce is good! Just mix a whole botle of ketchup with half a can of spageti sause! It really stretches the sauce.

    HOPE THIS HELPS!

  14. Shop at no frill markets like Aldi.

Watch the sales and use coupons to cut costs.

Purchase day old meat at the grocery.  It is still good.  Just use it or freeze it right away.

Eat lots of beans, rice & pasta dishes.

Use EVERYTHING.  For instance...if you bake a chicken (turkey or turkey breast) one day, make soup the next day using the carcass and left over meat.  Same with a ham.  Use the bone in the ham to make & flavor ham & bean soup.  Eat sandwiches with the leftovers.  For left over chicken, I make chicken salad or chicken quesadillas.  Packages of tortillas are cheap.  Just lay it flat in a skillet.  Sprinkle with cheese and chicken (and anything else you like).  Top with another tortilla and grill both sides to lightly browned & crunchy, and the cheese is melted.  They are tasty and filling.

Cook everything yourself.  This will save you money by not purchasing pre-cooked or pre-packaged items.

Don't buy chips and food that is expensive and not filling.  If you want to add the crunch, serve a pickle or baby carrots instead.  They are healthier and will fill you up.

You can really eat pretty good if you plan, shop at the right places, and cook it yourself.  You just need to get a little creative and think past the next meal.  Consider how to use the left overs and even the bones.  The bones add great flavor to things and there are always bits of meat that will cook off and add flavor if you use them.

  15. 1 box mac&cheese, 1 lb hamburger, 1small can peas and carrots.

  16. corned beef hash is really tasty and really easy and cheap to make, all you need it a tin of corned beef, a tin of beans and some potatoes.

cube the potatoes and par-boil them in salted water, then drain and put in a frying pan with a little oil, then cube the tin of corned beef and add to the frying pan, then add the beans and cook for about 10 mins. empty the contents into a baking dish and put in the oven for roughly 40 mins and then serve. it is really good for freezing if you make a big batch and tastes great reheated.
