I'd like to get a gift certificate for my friends to a great restaurant in San Francisco (their honeymoon destination) as their wedding gift, but I've never been there?

Advice on well-known restaurants in the area?

  1. Quince

One of the top rated hard to  get into.

  2. Boulevard

    Masa's

    Fleur de Lys

  3. Trader Vic's --the one with the view of the bridge

  4. Jardiniere

    300 Grove St

    San Francisco, CA 94102

    Phone: (415) 861-5555

  5. I'll second Boulevard, Millenium, and Farallon.

And add Aqua, Slanted Door, Greens, and Jardiniere.  Aqua has the best creative seafood on the planet.  Slanted Door (French/Vietnamese fusion) and Greens (gourmet vegetarian) have the most beautiful bay views in San Francisco.  And Jardiniere is perfect if they have Symphony, Ballet, or Opera tickets one night... or why don't you get them tickets too and make it a complete and very memorable evening?

  6. There are a tremendous number of great restaurants in San Francisco. You can find from fast food to gourmet in just about every type of cuisine available.

So, not knowing what kind of food your friends enjoy nor what area they're staying in, here's a suggestion. Get them a copy of the San Francisco Zagat Survey and put a Visa or American Express gift card in it. This way they can choose what they want and not be locked into a specific restaurant.

Just be aware that dinner at some of the restaurants that others have mentioned such as Gary Danko, Fleur de Lys, and Masa's can easily run upwards of $100 or more per person!

  7. my boyfriend took me to celebrate our one year together to sf. we had dinner at house of prime rib. really good and really friendly staff.

  8. Consider giving them a gift certificate to a restaurant that's both in San Francisco and their home town. Circumstances might prevent the newlyweds from visiting your chosen restaurant during their honeymoon ~ they could still use the gift certificate at a later date and at their leisure.

  9. Farmer Brown is one of the new big things in town. Haven't eaten there but I've heard good reviews. I've been by there and it looks nice :-)

  10. For a unique experience try Farallon, wonderful seafood served in a space that is like dining in an undersea garden.  I got a gift certificate from a friend for this place and loved it even more than when a date took me there.  Truely an only in SF kind of place.

Another unsual option is Millennium the best vegan restaurant in the city.  The food is so incredible you'll never even miss the meat!

  11. House of nan King...

it looks like hole in the wall, but it's FANTASTIC!!

tell them to ask what is reccomended, you can order off the menu but we asked them to make whatever's good and gave them a price range... i've never been happier with a place to eat. it was abotu three years ago since i have been and i STILL rave about it.
