  1. No - probably because they were bored with the mundane studies and thinking instead of much more complex phenomenon.

  2. Probably not. The education system has always been in disarray...I don't mind paying attention in school, I just teach myself that which they either refuse or cannot teach me. What they do teach me I memorize to pass the tests and promptly forget because it is either useless to me or badly taught.

I'm sure they (the scientists in your list) did well, but I would bet that most of them did not put much effort into the attempt.

Never look at grades as an indicator of intelligence for yourself or anyone else. It is more an indication of how much effort has been put forth to get those letters on a piece of paper.

  3. not all of them, just they are good in their respective field and i can tell you that Einstein is not good in school he's drop out

  4. Most excelled at the university level.  They were excellent philosophers and many were prolific publishers.

There is a great misconception that is often repeated but is quite wrong.  Einstein was a great student (1.0 is the BEST grade in Germany not 4.0).  He was distressed often by the rigidity of school, and as one answer suggests, was bored, but he did very well in school for the most part.

  5. They didn't really use grades in Newton's time. We get that from the Prussians in the early 1800s.

  6. I'm sure all were smarter than the average bear if you know what I mean, but school grades aren't a perfect indicator for brilliance. I read a biography on Einstein when I was younger and one of his early teachers once said he was unteachable and would amount to little... so much for that.
