I was actually curious about one thing. Since there is N. Korea and S. Korea I wondered why they were announced as "Korea".

Now I've learned that they've actually united under the Olympic flag. What an encouraging story!

Do you know any more encouraging stories like this, under the Olympic flag, and what are they? :)

  1. This clearly didn't happen,

South Korea is competing under the name Korea and North Korea is competing under the name Peoples Republic of Korea.

They came out in the opening ceremony behind different flags.

  2. mongolia won a medal - GO THE GREAT BARBARIAN RACEl

  3. They were united under the same flag in Athens 2004, but split again in Beijing 2008.  Pooling resources together to go to Greece, but their big brother, China, can pay for their tab in 2008.

It's not so encouraging when N.Korea threatens to make nuclear weapons if they don't get free food from the US.  When they get the free food, they give it to the soldiers and most privileged, while the normal citizens eat tree bark and babies.

  4. They united under the Olympic flag because they have a much better chance at making a mark if they combine their strengths. One can only hope this leads them to realizing they can reconcile and become a stronger, united, country once again.

I think the 33 year old gymnast who took 2nd in the vault is a great story. She began competing again because she needed money to save her sons life.
