Great time for Detroit Tigers to gear up the clutch – MLB Update
In some ways, Detroit Tigers is one of the most exciting teams to watch in Major League Baseball these days. Not only have the Tigers acquired some of the best hitting and pitching talent for their big league roster but they also have a very experienced
Manager in form of Jim Leyland.
Leyland and company surprised the critics with their consistent performances past season. Emerging victorious more often than not, the Tigers grabbed the American League Central Division title for the first time in club’s history.
However, the Tigers are certainly under a lot more pressure this season. The fans have high expectations from the team that looked invincible at times last year.
In Miguel Cabrera, the Tigers have a gifted veteran hitter. Tigers’ third baseman has up his game play with each passing game this season and it seems he will play a key role in Tigers’ second straight AL Central Division triumph.
Ace Justin Verlander, who won the American League Most Valuable Player Award and the Cy Young Award in 2011, also has the ability to single handedly win games for his team.
Verlander has produced some match winning performances this season as he is one of the best pitchers in the American League right now. His command over the fastballs and the curveballs is quite exceptional. Above all, he is always looking to find room for
improvement in his technique.
Prince Fielder, who was acquired for nine year $214 million contract some months, is also starting to look like his old self. He was kept quite by the AL pitchers before the All Star Break. However, after winning Home Run Derby for the second time in just
four years, he is looking in a very confident mood.
Fielder has unique hitting abilities. Right now, he is averaging .308 with 15 home-runs and 68 RBI’s. He can only become more dangerous as we enter last quarter of the season.
However, the Tigers will be looking to take one step further this year. They have not won the World Series title since 1984 and it will be interesting to see if Verlander, Cabrera, Fielder, Quintin Berry and other key players can give the fans what they
have always dreamt off.
With so many quality players in their hitting and pitching lineups, there aren’t any noticeable mid season trades for the Tigers. The only thing the Tigers will be looking to correct is making the right combinations.
If Cabrera, Fielder, Berry, Delmon Young and Austin Jackson can deliver the goods on regular basis, the Tigers can beat even the best in the business. With eight wins in their last ten games, the Tigers are gearing up the clutch just at the right time.
