Great to have Chris Gayle back in the squad: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-Barath-c886 – Cricket News Update
West Indies’ 22-year-old opener, Adrian Barath, has welcomed the return of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 to the ODI squad, saying the veteran batsman’s experience is sure to bolster the batting line-up and benefit the other players.
Barath, whose career spans 14 Tests and the same amount of ODIs, has been axed for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Omar-Akeem-Powell-c71441, following their poor performances in the ongoing Test series. Barath is due
to be replaced by renowned Jamaican left-hander Gayle, who will be returning to the national side after a period of roughly 14 months.
“He's been in the set-up for years and everyone has respect for Chris,” said Barath. “It's great to have him back and he'll lend experience to our players.”
A veteran of 228 ODIs, with 8087 runs and 19 centuries to his credit, Gayle fell out with the West Indies Cricket Board following the 2011 World Cup, when he slammed the board and head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358 in a radio interview after he was excluded from the
squad for an ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
The remarks led to the 32-year-old being sidelined from selection for all further fixtures, and he promptly busied himself with other commitments, such as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League, followed by the Indian Premier League.
However, aided by senior politicians in the Caribbean, a truce was recently reached between the board and Gayle, as he backed out of a lucrative deal with County club http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 to make himself available for national selection.
While he was unable to participate in the ongoing 3-match Test series, the hard-hitter has been selected for the ODI series, due to begin on June 16 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Despite having paid the price by being dropped from the squad, Barath is
convinced the move will benefit the team.
“Having Chris in our team (makes it) a really solid team,” he commented. “The depth in our batting - with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andre-Dwayne-Russell-c44235 - once we get going in the powerplay it would be difficult
to say how could we not chase a big score or set one.”
