Great to keep hold of Andy says Alastair Cook – Cricket News Update
England skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashley-Fraser-Giles-c46314 will be added to the coaching staff in a senior capacity.
Flower cited http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s hectic scheduling as a stumbling block between balancing work and family life, and wanted to discuss his future as the team’s Head Coach. After mutual agreement, he decided to stay put as the side’s Test coach but relinquished his day-to-day limited-over duties to Giles, the ex-Warwickshire director of cricket and a former member of the national team.
This allows Flower to spend considerable time with his three children, and at the same time, oversee all the managerial matters, despite not getting directly involved with the ODI and T20 teams.
While that move remained on the cards, a final agreement was only made last week after it was hinted that Flower could walk away from his post altogether. The Zimbabwean has had to share extended workload in recent times, and England’s upcoming schedule hardly gives him any respite.
Moreover, the off-field troubles he has had to deal with left him physically drained, but it seemed clear from ECB’s point of view that they duly wanted to keep him on board, having helped the side achieve plenty of success over the past five years.
The board was further clear in their minds regarding Flower’s successor and took little time to appoint Giles, who has quickly established himself as a permanent figure in the eyes of the English Hierarchy. Cook was simply pleased with the outcome.
"It's great that we've managed to keep hold of Andy," Cook, who admitted he did not try to talk Flower out of the decision, said. "He's a great person to be involved with and we're also adding more experience into the coaching team with Ashley coming on board. It is exciting times and I am sure it will work well."
"A lot of the coaches' work is done when we're not playing. It's great that we've managed to keep hold of Andy, he's a great person to be involved with, and we're also adding more experience into the coaching team with Ashley coming on board."
