My only grip is that Qld won with a man of the match, game breaking performance by young Israel on the win, this guy must have been watching the AFL, by taking those bombs!

Israel was actually born and raised in NSW, in Minto actually, granted the place is a slum, but that still makes him a New South Welshman, plying in a maroon jersey.....just like many other so called Queenslanders!

  1. I agree with Martin - players need to choose their alliances. You consider yourself a New South Welshman or a Queenslander.

  2. well said ARCHIE i am a qld raised since 1yr but was born in NSW(dont tell neone). So therefor I believe I am QLDER. sterlo born in toowoomba, ken nagas played for NSW and was born n bred in CQ played all juniors footy with my brother in queensland then went and starred for NSW. standard that NSWmen are whinging now we are reaping the rewards

  3. It should be where you play your first game (junior or senior) that deceides which state you play for. That's why each player on tv states which club they came from before kickoff.

    Greg Ingliss-Bowerville (NSW)???

  4. I guess it all comes down to how you define " origin ". I suppose going on place of birth makes it clear cut & simple, but does it make any sense. Take the case of Peter Sterling who was the top gun halfback of his era and played origin for NSW, well he was born in Toowoomba, Qld and moved to NSW as a 2 year old when his family moved their. If origin selection was based on place of birth he would have been playing for QLD, but I'm sure no one and especially Peter himself would consider him to be a Queenslander. On the international scene Karmichael Hunt was born in NZ but moved to Brisbane as an 11 yo when his family moved here. Raises the question in terms of migration, at what age does a player ( especially in their own mind ) become identified as belonging to the region they moved to as opposed to where they were born ? Not any easy question to answer, but if you want a hard and fast rule, maybe we could have a rule that says selection is based on place of birth but if you move states or country before 10 years of age you belong to the state/country you moved to & if you move between 10 & 15 yo.  you have the choice to play for either depending on who you identify with in your own heart. But, that's just a suggestion. Or maybe the best rule should be to allow the player to choose who they identify with. I don't know - I don't think any ruling is going to be perfect.

  5. Well they made the rules to even the games up because NSW used to win every year,  That is how origin was born.  qld is continuing to pinch NSW young players.  One in particular is Korbin Sims, younger brother of Ashton Sims from Gerringong. They also have another brother Tariq who was playing U 20's for Brisbane last I saw. Korbin played for qld  in the curtain raiser to origin 1 in under 16's.  I have seen him play several time sand he sure has the goods, so NSW again loses another 1 and maybe 2 with the younger Sims brothers.  I am sure there are more.  If a NSW team did the same as brisbane they would be given a hard time, but if a qld team did it, it is ok.

By the way, Minto isn't as bad as Fortitude Valley!

  6. JUST sounds like all u NSWelshman are trying to say that Folau should be FORCED to play for NSW hahaha....coz he wasn't forced to play for QLD, he could've have turned tha selectors down, right? Didnt see him do that, far out you NSWelshman are a bunch of sore losers haha, i wonder what your excuse was last year when we thrashed you and tha year before haha

State of origin is considered the PINNACLE of Rugby League, players come together to battle it out to find out who the BEST players are!

Just because Folau was BORN in NSW doesnt mean anything! Because Origin is not about the BEST place to be BORN in! hahaha Origin is about who develops their young players the best if you think about it? He may have been born in NSW buh does that actually count for anything when he's on the field? Is being born in NSW or QLD gonna help him score tries? Or rather is it his TRAINING that he received playing in QLD that comes to the fore?

  7. I agree 110%... if your born in nsw u should only be allowed to play for nsw in the state of origin. same for queensland.

    the term or·i·gin (ôr-jn, r-)n.

    1. The point at which something comes into existence or from which it derives or is derived.

orgin-, from orr, to arise, be born.

  8. Totally agree 100%,,,,(Qld'er but born n bred NSW.)

  9. Rules are rules mate.  How many NSW players were born in Qld?  This is State of Origin football not State of Origin birthplace.

  10. Its not state of origin of birth, it's state of origin of where you first played football...Rules are Rules, Israel belongs to us not NSW. We stole him fair and square.
