  1. While he could only beat Sandy Saddler once out of four attempts, the Old Will O' the Wisp, Willie Pep (God bless his soul) was the boxer (of any weightclass) that boxers emulate more than anyone else.  Pep was the absolute MASTER of hitting without getting hit, and was even fabled as winning a round without even throwing a punch.  Can you imagine that?  All three judges awarding a fighter a round purely on his DEFENSIVE SKILLS?  Outdamnstanding!!!

Sanchez was truly a great, but unfortunately his untimely death didn't let us see enough of him to make him the all-time best feather.

Clearly, my favorites unite Mexico with Nicaragua when I compare Ruben Olivares and Alexis Arguello.  Their fight was truly a match made in Heaven.  Both masters of their craft, full of Latino heart. . . . .but Arguello, the younger, faster, and more active fighter on that night took the belt from "el Puas" (the Panther).

Pep is the man that Sanchez, Olivares, and Arguello all strove to be like.  That makes him, in my opinion, the best feather of all time.

  2. Salvador Sanchez was one of the greatest featherweights in history of boxing, unfortunately the fullness of his potential will never be known because of his death at age 23. He would have easily beat some of todays greats had they fought. A great challenge would have been Alexis Arugello, I think Salvador would have been to intelligent for him but it would have been a great fight. He won most of his fights by knockout, but never tried to force the knockout, he patiently took his opponents apart and when he saw an oppening he took them out.

There are many other great fighters that exist and many will argue with me because I am not saying that I know them all but this is a fighter that I personally was able to follow along with many others.

His record stood at 44 Wins with 32 knock outs, 1 loss & 1 draw. His last fight was a knock win over the great Azumah Nelson in the 15th round on July 21st 1982.
