  1. Babe Ruth

He was a good pitcher but he is more known for his positional playing and batting.  His play style is still talked about because he was so far ahead of his area.  He had more home runs some years than entire teams!!

There are alot of great players but he is just a fraction above some of the others...IMO.

  2. Greatness is defined on who we will talk about for ages to come. It has to be Babe Ruth. He could've been one of the greatest pitchers if the Yankees didn't convert him to an everyday field player. He was so far ahead of his time and no player has come close to the impact he's made on the sport.

I think Willie Mays is one of the most skilled players but not the greatest. Willie could hit for power and he had speed on the bases as well as being the best center fielder. Obviously Babe wasn't fast but Mays can't pitch. So if we're talking about the game of baseball in all it's aspects, Babe is the greatest.

  3. Even if you don't look at the two 20 win seasons, aside from SB, Ruth set the bar.

Hit .342, 714 home runs. (when he retired, he had more HRs than the 2nd and 3rd place guys on the list), an OPS+ of over 200, .690 career slugging %.

  4. Willie Mays

    Willie McCovey

  5. Willie Mays. Ruth was a threat but only offensively. Mays would make awesome plays all the time and he could run. Not to mention 660 Career Homeruns.

  6. Willie Mays was the best all-around player the game has ever seen. Yes, Babe Ruth could hit for power, but his career E.R.A. was 2.50. Though that is great today, it was done in the dead ball era, and if he pitched today it would be around 4.50. Ruth wasn't extremely fast or the greatest fielder. But the Say Hey Kid could hit for power, hit for average, was very fast, had a cannon for an arm, and was arguably the greatest defensive center fielder of all time. (I think a few center fielders were better though defensively.) He's definitely one of the top five defensive center fielders of all time. I think all this make Willie Mays the best to ever play the game.

  7. Me.

    I know Im a girl.

But I love to play the sport.

    Softball is for sissys.

    Baseball is for...me!

Is that enough credit to make me the best??

  8. Honus Wagner

  9. Show me a lefthanded pitcher who spent four years pitching like Randy Johnson.  Then show me an outfielder who spent 16 years hitting like Barry Bonds -- only doing it without steroids.  Then show me that the first guy became the second guy.  Show me one of the best pitchers in the game becoming the best hitter in the history of the game.  And I'll show you Babe Ruth.
