  1. Archie Moore didn't even reach his peak until 40.

  2. I would say Foreman and Moore are the top two. I was going to include Hopkins until I realized his win/loss record after turning 40. He turned 40 on 1/15/05. He had 6 fights, won 3 and lost 3.

  3. George Forman: He won sport's most coveted prize at 45 after 10 years off.

Archie Moore: Prolly should be first with his record of KO wins but I give it to George because of the lay-off and the odds against him.   Archie never took a lot of time off.

Bernard Hopkins:  He lost his last fight but then anyone in the division would lose to Calzaghe.  He has a very difficult style to beat.

Roberto Duran:  He lost to Camacho but should have won.  He also had two close ones with Vinny Pazienza (I'll never call him Paz.  Y ruin such a cool last name.  LOL.........anyone seen him lately?  I used to see him often.  I like Vinny)

Larry Holmes:  On the merritt of his win over Tough Ray Mercer alone, he deserves credit.  I think he would have lost to Big George, whom he would beat if they were both prime.   Power and endurance are the last things you lose.  George has both in abundance.   Speed and balance,  much of what made Larry great, are among the first things you lose.

Saoul Mamby:  Remember him?  He once admitted to being afraid of Arron Pryor.  I dont blame him for avoiding Pryor.   He'd have a better chance sticking it in a snake's mouth.  Still he deserves credit.  He did lose a decision to Duran and kicked DeJesus' butt.  Believe it or not, he is THE OLDEST, at age 60, to ever box in an officially sanctioned fight.

Robinson was decent after 40 but not great.  That's where 16 of his 19 losses came in.   It's also why Carmen Basilio is rated so high.

There were many others who tried to "Pull a George"  but none were very successful.

  4. foreman, thanks to his crippling punching power, but as for skill id say moore and hopkins, theres really not to many to choose from

  5. Willie Pep, Archie Moore, Bob Fitzsimmons

  6. Saul Mamba

  7. No one touches George. . . but Archie comes close, with his killer KO percentage.

BHop is impressive, too. . . . but overall, I can't see anyone doing what George did at 45.  And to KO a young kid like Moorer. . .all the sweeter.

  8. Great choices. I wouldn't fight those guys even if they are 70 years old.

  9. not including answers already mentioned,

    virgil hill

    daniel zaragoza

    dennis andries (not great, but.........)

  10. Archie Moore

    Roberto Duran

    Larry Holmes

    Bernard Hopkins
