Greatest jumps in the history of professional wrestling: Edge, Jimmy Snuka, Shane McMahon
There have been many wrestlers in the history of professional wrestling who have jumped from great heights and impressed the world with their bravery and strength. However, there were some wrestlers who stood out and executed some jumps which are still remembered today. These wrestlers put their lives in danger to impress their fans. Following is the list of some of the biggest and unbelievable jumps in wrestling history.
The jump which receives the 1st position in the list of biggest jumps is so unbelievable that even after watching the complete video one’s left shaking their head in disbelief and awe. The occasion was Wrestle Mania XVII, when three different teams completed in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match with the World Tag Team titles on the line. The Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match is one of the most brutal matches in the history of professional wrestling, and has mostly resulted in battered bodies and shortened careers.
The three teams which competed for the title were Edge and Christian, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy, and the Dudley Boyz. Jeff Hardy climbed a ladder to retrieve the Tag Team title hanging more than 20 feet above the ring floor. Jeff Hardy almost had his hands on the title when Bubba Ray Dudley took the ladder away. Jeff Hardy was now hanging more than 20 feet above the ring floor and there was no ladder beneath him. That was the time when ‘The Ultimate Opportunist’, Edge, climbed another ladder in the ring and delivered a spear to Jeff Hardy’s abdomen. It was unbelievable and mind blowing as Jeff Hardy fell on the ring floor from such a height.
Both Edge and Jeff Hardy were unconscious for a few moments, but at the end, it was a risk worth taking, as it was the team of Edge and Christian which finally succeeded in retrieving the tag team title, and became the World Tag Team Champions.
The second best jump in the history of professional wrestling involved no ladders, tables or chairs but a brutal steel cage structure. It was Don Muraco who fought against the high flying legend, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka. Both wrestlers ripped each other apart in the cage with the Intercontinental title on the line. A miscalculation by “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka led to him losing the match. “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka was so angry that he took Don Muraco back in the ring. “Superfly” climbed the steel cage and stood 15 feet above the ring floor, stretched his arms and executed the infamous “Superfly” Splash on Don Muraco.
The crowd roared as no one had seen a wrestler risking his body just for the sake of revenge. At that time in 1983, WWF was dominated by wrestlers who had an impressive big physique but were not very athletic. This jump impressed many around the world. Every one applauded “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka on his jump, but no one thought about Don Muraco who actually felt it. Ouch.
It was always thought that Shane McMahon, who is the son of the WWE chairman Vince McMahon, was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and always won matches with the help of other people and did not have any wrestling ability. Well, the “help” part may be right, but he does have some wrestling ability which has earned him the third position in the greatest leaps of all time.
Shane McMahon fought a Last Man Standing match against the largest athlete of the world, Big Show. Test, who was the rival of Big Show at that time, intervened in the match and knocked down Big Show on a wooden platform. Shane McMahon risked it all to climb a 50 foot steel structure and dropped an elbow on Big Show from that height. This huge jump helped Shane McMahon silence his critics and win the match.
