ok my friend and i decided that were are going to take our senior summer trip to sydney australia, but we dont know anything about it. I was wondering where some cheap but descent and fun places to stay were at, and what the nightlife is like. I understand that the drinking age is 18, unlike 21 in the US, so i would like to know about bars and clubs that are around. Thanks in advance

  1. If I don't take a trip through a touring company, I honestly go look at their "trip details" or "itineraries" and try to do some of the things on there.. Here's a link to the tour I'm doing this summer (includes New Zealand) but has alot of stuff for Australia on there.

  2. hello! well lucky you! and great choice of location. i was just in australia for a month in january (during their summer) and it was awesome. we were in brisbane and went up north to cairns to visit the great barrier reef (which you should absolutely do if you are going all the way to australia). anyway we also went to sydney for a little bit. our hotel was really great and cheap..it was the holiday inn at darling harbor. pretty centrally located too. you should definitely see an opera in the sydney opera house and take the tour. go the the queen victoria shopping mall thing bc its a beautiful old building, original from the british occupation. you need also to see bondi beach (its famous) and take a boat ride around the harbor. you should also do the sydney harbor bridge climb (i haven't personally done it but a friend of mine has and they said it was awesome). hmm what else...if you have time you should definitely spend some of it walking around 'the rocks' which is the oldest and most beautiful (in my opinion) area of sydney. a fun place to go at night for bar hopping is in the darling harbor area..its just bar after bar ..right on the harbor! effing gorgeous at night! and also there is another place thats good for bar hopping...i forgot what the area was called but it was walking distance from our hotel..another reason why it was such a good location! oh and a fun bar which i actually do remember going to was called something with the word 'monkey' in it..haha. im sorry i wish i could provide more info. but i do hope this was insightful. oh and dont forget about the aquarium in sydney. it was very cool. oooh and another great thing about the location of our hotel was that i was RIGHT behind china town! which has cute import shops and great food. HAVE A BLAASST!

  3. Hey!

I am a Sydney girl, born and raised.

I would probablly say North Sydney and surrounding areas would be the best place for you to stay. There are much cheaper places / areas in the inner city, but they are dodgy and you wouldn't really want to be walking about by yourselves there late at night. So look for places to stay on the 'Lower and Upper North Shore'. You may pay a little more but I think it would be a worth while investment.

Apart from that, Darling Harbour and Cockel Bay are the best places to be on Saturday nights out and about... the QVB is great for shopping ... um um umm ... most of the city is cool.

You might like to also consider checking out Melbourne during your stay. Its completely different to Sydney but also really cool. A lot more relaxed than Sydney.

And yes, 18 is the legal drinking age.
