Greece secures 3-1 win over Israel in Pool C 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Women match
Pool C matches of the 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Women took place on June 3rd, Sunday. The city of Brno of the Czech Republic played host to the pool play of the CEV tournament with the venue of the matches being the Vodova sports hall which saw
the Greek squad compete with the Israelis.
The match between Greece and Israel went on for four sets. The opening frame as well as the third set of the game was tough as the score remained close but the second set saw the Greeks stay dominant. The fourth set was not very challenging as the Greeks
bagged it and sealed the deal at the following final set scores: 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, and 25-21.
Dimitris Floros, the head coach of the winning squad, expressed his enthusiasm in the following words at the press conference, “I am evidently happy with the result; we played quite aggressively and deserved to win this game.”
The coach of the Israeli squad, Galit Devash, remained positive and gave the following statements, “We are very young and lack experience, so although we fought bravely, we could not put everything together to get a positive result out of this game. I still
hope we can defeat Greece when it comes to the next round of the competition.”
The player that earned herself the credit of being the highest scorer in the match was Evgenia Tsima of Greece as she kept her side of the score board ticking by adding 21 points.
The opening set of the match started off with both the sides pretty much even but before long the Greeks were successful in gaining control of the frame. The Israelis did not let the lead stretch too far and managed to close in the gap but the Greeks were
able to maintain a distance from their rivals.
As a result, Greece bagged the first frame at 25-22. The momentum generated at winning the initial set took Greece to a second set victory as well. However, the Israelis avoided a clean sweep by securing the third frame of the game. Despite a good effort
in the fourth set, the Israelis lost it to Greece at 21-25.
