A 46-run win over Finland in a 5th place play-off, at the Ropa Valley No 1 Ground on September 8, enabled Greece to clinch the 5th place title in the recently concluded 2012 European Championship Division Two Twenty20 played in Corfu, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Finland-c2898 finished 6th.
Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Greece opened their innings with Aslam Mohammad (25) and Anastasios Manousis (19), who set up a steady 40-run partnership. Madhu Bhandari (3-0-21-2) intervened to break it up, and Aslam Mohammad was sent back to the pavilion, followed by Manousis, who was trapped, lbw, by Ekhpelwak Kuchey.
Mehmood Ahmed was next up to bat, and chipped in with a contribution of 11 runs before he was trapped, lbw, by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nic-Pothas-c2100 (68) brought the innings back on track, setting up a 65-run 4th-wicket stand which got the team total up to 130.
Koutsoufis was sent packing by Bhandari, followed soon after by his successor Ioannis Vasilas who remained ineffective, dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out for a bit longer, joining forces with Pothas for an unbeaten 29-run 6th-wicket stand, which got the team up to a final total of 169 by the end of 20 overs.
Stepping up to chase 170, Finland managed two solid partnerships, and got off to a steady start. However, they were unable to complete the chase, and found themselves cut off at 123 by the end of 20 overs.
Zahidullah Kamal (26) and Roholah Sadiqui (27) opened the innings for their side, and got off to a stable start, setting up an opening partnership of 57 runs before Mehmood Ahmed stepped in to break it up, sending Zahidullah http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamal-c70069 back to the pavilion.
Roholah Sadiqui followed soon after, trapped lbw by Spyridon Goustis, but Jonathan Scamans (37*) and Ekhpelwak Kuchey (21) made another valiant attempt to keep their team in the game, joining forces for a 60-run stand for the 3rd wicket.
However, their efforts went in vain, and following the dismissal of Ekhpelwak Kuchey at the hands of Dimitrios Triantafillidis, Finland found themselves at 123 by the end of 20 overs – 46 runs short of the target.
