Greece v Finland at Corfu – European Championship Division Two Twenty20 (Group B) – Match Update
Half-centuries from Aslam Mohammad and Alexis Souvlakis, followed by a 4-wicket haul from Dimitrios Triantafillidis, saw Greece claiming a 53-run victory over Finland in their Group B match at Maessonghi on September 6, during the European Championship Division
Two Twenty20 currently being played on the Greek island of Corfu.
Finland won the toss and elected to field first. However, despite the efforts of Tariq http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stuart-Clark-c2591 (4-0-28-2), Bilal Khan (4-0-24-2), and Madhu Bhandari (4-0-47-2), the team was unable to restrict the Greek batsmen.
Greece opened their innings with Aslam Mohammad (80 off 40, including 8 sixes and 4 fours) and Anastasios Manousis (8), and while the latter was soon dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bilal-Khan-c48088, Aslam Mohammad was joined at the crease for a mammoth 116-run stand by Alexis Souvlakis
(50 off 25).
The partnership got the team total up to 130, after which Souvlakis was sent back to the pavilion by Finland skipper Amrik Bhatia. However, Aslam Mohammad powered on, going on to set up a 36-run stand with Andreas Koutsoufis (19) and a 30-run partnership

However, following the initial partnerships, the runs dried up for the team, and out of the remainder of the batsmen, 3 were dismissed on duck. By the end of 20 overs, with wicketkeeper batsman Christos Molinaris (1*) and Dimitrios Triantafillidis (1*) at
the crease, Greece posted a final total of 211.
Led by Ekhpelwak Kuchey (54), Finland made a valiant attempt to complete the chase – however, Triantafillidis (4-0-29-4) and Zois Ntemsias (4-0-27-2) ensured that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Finland-c2898 did not exceed 158.
Their innings consisted mostly of mediocre outings, but was peppered with several notable performances such as Ekhpelwak Kuchey’s 54 off 49, Bilal Khan’s 21 off 10, and Bhandari’s unbeaten 33 off 14. The remainder of the batting order were unable to surpass
single-digit scores, and Finland were eventually restricted to 158 by the end of 20 overs – 53 runs short of the target.
Having failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament, both teams will now be participating in 5th Place Play-Off Semi-Finals on September 7 – Greece against Estonia, and Finland against Portugal.
