Greece v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Isle-of-Man-c41000 at Corfu – European Championship Division Two Twenty20 (Group B) – Match Update
A concentrated all-round performance by Isle of Man enabled them to claim a comprehensive 102-run victory over Greece during their Group B match on September 4 at the Ropa Valley No 2 Ground, in the ongoing European Championship Division Two Twenty20 being
played out in Corfu.
Isle of Man won the toss and elected to bat first, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-David-Morris-c58397 (66) opening the innings for their side, and setting up a massive 111-run stand. Their partnership came to an end when both batsmen were dismissed by Spyridon Goustis
(4-0-34-2).
Oliver http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Webster-c65053 (37) and Philip Littlejohns (25*) picked it up from there, establishing a 54-run stand which got their team up to 170. Webster fell prey to Zois Ntemsias, after which Gareth Roome joined Littlejohns to take the team up to a final total of
185 by the end of 20 overs, at the expense of 3 wickets.
The target of 186 should not have posed too much of a problem for Greece, but proved next to impossible, as Isle of Man launched an intense attack which saw each bowler claiming at least one wicket, while Arnie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 den Berg claimed 3 for 18, and Gregory
Hawke and Stokoe claimed 2 each.
Opener Alexis Souvlakis was dismissed on duck, while 5 batsmen – Anastasios Manousis, Ioannis Vasilas, Goustis, Dimitrios Triantafillidis, and Ntemsias - contributed just one run each. Aslam Mohammad (15) and Stamatios Giourgas (10) both set up a partnership
of 28 runs – the highest on their side – but it was not able to do much for their final total.
Mehmood Ahmed top scored for the team with a contribution of 20 runs, and was joined by skipper and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nic-Pothas-c2100 (17) for a 4th-wicket 23-run stand. The only other substantial partnership was established between Pothas and Andreas Koutsoufis
(3) – an 11-run stand.
The Greek batting order was unable to stand up to the assault, and crumbled at 83, all out, by the 18th over – 102 runs short of the target set for them, while Isle of Man claimed a satisfying victory which earned them 2 match points.
