(Greek) Cypriots, would this offend you?

This may seem like a silly question but with the political situation in Cyprus I thought it worth asking.

Not sure if any (Greek) Cypriots frequent this site, but I’d appreciate your opinions or anyone who is familiar with Cyprus.

We’re going to Cyprus for a holiday next week with our family and we’ve bought our 3 year old son a Cyprus football strip to wear, instead of wearing an England strip (we’re English). Is his wearing this likely to offend any of the locals?

It’s the blue (Greek Cypriot) strip and we’re holidaying in the South of the island.

I know wearing a Turkish strip might cause problems ;-)

(Also is being called a Greek Cypriot offensive?)

No offence.    But, please, buy your son's strip in Cyprus and help the economy.

No, they won't be offended!! If anything, they will be quite flattered!! And, anyway, the football strips are readily available in most clothing shops in the tourist areas anyway!! The Cypriots are very family orientated, and just love kids, so I think for they would find it charming to see a 3 year old dressed in their football strip!!

Neither do I think they would find it offensive being called 'Greek Cypriot!!! We  have been living here in Cyprus for almost four years now, and we have a good mix of both ex pats, and Cypriots as neighbours, and we have some really good Cypriot friends! We live in Xylofagou, about 8K from Agia Napa. It can be a very quiet sleepy village in the winter, though we do often have some of the overspill of tourists in the summer.

In general, I think you will find you will be made very welcome everywhere!!! Have a great holiday!!! Oh, and be prepared....its very hot here at the moment!!! Its almost 10.30.am here, and 34C already!!!

No I cant see anyone being offended.  The Greek Cypriots are lovely people, very friendly, very laid back.  They will probably think it cute!
