Question:

Greek Honeymoon?

Hello all,

I'm starting to try to plan a honeymoon for myself and my feonce. She wants to go to Greece.

What we would like is a place close to good shopping and beaches. I would like some nice snorkeling and/or scuba places. Our wedding is at the beginning of August next year to give you the time of the year we plan on going. Being close to some history (ruins, museums, etc.), food, and wine would be nice also.

We would prefer a place which we wouldn't necessarily have to rent a car for a week.

Does anyone have any ideas of nice cities or regions to look into? Also, if you have an idea of a good resort or villa or hotel which you would recommend that would be helpful. We would be open to any advice or recommendations. Thanks a lot!

  1. Planning a trip to Greece without a travel agent is like having surgery without a surgeon.

    Don't rely on the internet.

Find a travel agent in your area (a real agent) not one of the new breed of internet wannabees.

An experienced agent has their fingers on all the local experts to put the best trip together for your needs as mentioned.

In the 30 plus years that I have been doing this, it amazes me to see people who ask the internet before travel agents.

  2. Hi honey, for honeymooners, SANTORINI is the perfect island. You can trust me on that, it was rated by Travel Channel in 2005, as the 2nd top destination worldwide. The island itself was created out one of a volcano erruption and its rumored to be the home of "the lost city of Atlantis", Its also famous for its beautiful sunsets. Its not a party island but more of a honeymoon island but it still has many club and bar scenes, with beautiful white washed houses, black pebble beaches, red beaches. etc. Trust me its gorgeous..

  3. A honeymoon should be magical and also romantic. So I recommend either Mykonos or Santorini.

Mykonos is an island with many great beaches and very well organized. It's a place that attracts Europe's elite. It's great for shopping but everything is very expensive. There is organized scuba club and with a 10 minute ferry you can go to the ancient uninhabited island of dylos, a place worth seeing. there is public transportation but I recommend a car.

Santorini I believe it's a better choice for a honeymoon since it's very romantic (the caldera has phenomenal view and the sunset of Oia is world famous). The island is crawling with history. You can even scuba dive among real underwater ruins. The shops and food are cheaper and it's not as crowded as in Mykonos. Search the Internet for pictures and I'm sure you'll love it. The only thing everybody thinks is great but I don't like are the black volcanic sand beaches. No thin golden sand like the other Greek Islands.

Congratulations on your wedding, have fun and be careful of taxi drivers and some restaurants in search of tourist suckers to reap off.

  4. I live on Corfu island and can recommend it here! I think the most beautiful place on Corfu is Canal D'amour, close to the resort of Sidari, If you google it, you will find stunning pictures of the scenery.

You dont NEED to book with a travel agent, you can book flights privately online, and the same for accommodation. Of course, if you feel that you would like the security of having a rep, and a company to call should you need assistance while away, by all means, book with an agent, but its not essential. I can recommend Louisa Apartments in Canal D'amour.

Beware Greece is VERY hot in August! Today is got up to 28 degrees inside my house!

There are plenty of historical places to visit on Corfu, and we are so close to the Greek mainland and Albania for convenient day trips.

Dont expect luxury on the Greek islands, most accommodations are basic, but clean - what more do you need?

Hope to see you here! xx

  6. Do you believe in magic,do you believe in dreams come true, then Santorini is for you.

No words to explain or describe the beauty of the island.

The sun sets from the Caldera are unforgettable.

Learn more about the island and you will fall in love with the place. On another note all the islands are wonderful.

Crete is big and has many thinks to offer but you need a car

at list for a day to see the sites, but if you go to a resort like Elouda Bay you need nothing else.

The resort is a 5 star and the village Elouda magical. And don't worry we all know what you mean.Congratulations and be happy.
