Greek Sculptures...?

Since i live out side of greece..and iam not so familiar with its arts...of today..i was wondering ..who can answer this..since we had so many famous ancient sculptors .like PRAXITILIS...what has become of our modern sculptors? are there any? what are some of the more famous sculptures done by modern greek sculptors..?and please iam only intrested in greek sculptors ...and are thier works worthy of ancient.qaulity?

  1. Well, I'm not really an expert in modern sculpture. I know a few names like Zogolopoulos, Takis....but I'm not really familiar with their work. I know and like Giannoulis Chalepas though, and Mara Karetsou because she happens to come from my home city. A famous sculpture of Chalepas is his " Sleeping woman " and of Karetsou the " Bust of Aspasia ".

    The island of Tinos is well known for it's School of sculpture, and many of todays greek sculptors have studied there.

    Compare them to the ancients like Praxitelis? I don't think we should. It would be really unfair to them. Ancient sculptures have a place in our heart now, because they worth it and for sentimental reasons too. Perhaps in the future people will refer to todays sculptors and their work with the same awe we refer to the ancients. Time gives a different perspective to things.
