Me and my boyfriend have booked our summer holiday and are off to the Greek island of Skiathos is June! Trouble is im not sure what is going to be on offer to eat!! I love food but i am quite fussy when it comes to things being clean! Here in England i will only eat in places that i know have a good level of hygeine im a bit worried that the Greek may have a slighty more layed back approach in their kitchens. I just want to know whether you think there reasturants will be clean and what i should look out for?

Also what can i expect to find on the menus?

  1. I only know  from friends who have worked in Greek Resat aunts and they complained of their hygiene as far as the food look it up on your computer see what food Greek offer

  2. Greek food is amazing! I went there for a vacation and it was awesome. They have traditional Greek food of course, but you can always get pizza and hamburgers too. They even have McDonalds =]] Try the gyros. They are like Heaven!

  3. Many different food oon menu, you can look up greek recipes on line to famiarize yourself with food names and ingredients....as for sanitary conditions, you should not worry, many are cleaner than places you frequent in local area.   Try new and different foods,  ask servers for advice....if you and boyfriend each get a differnt plate you can share and try new foods.  Whenever I travel abroad, I try to look up receipes as that helps me tremendously by knowing ingredients...that way I will know if it will appeal to my taste....but I always try something new just to see.(Usually choose something inexpensive if possible.)  As for street vendors, many are fine, but look around and see how many "local" people are eating from them...that is a gauge of food quality and conditions......Enjoy......the foods are delicious....

  4. you're in for a treat!  some of the restaurants there are very nice, while others are not sanitary at all.  stay away from the food that the street vendors sell as it will not be done in a sanitary way.  there are a lot of restaurants there that let dogs and cats wander through whenever they feel like it.  it can definitely be questionable.

expect to see a lot of seafood, pasta with sauces like bolognese and marinara, lamb meat, and chicken.  they don't really eat beef there.  a good mild dish if you're not feeling adventurous is souvlaki.  it is chicken that is roasted on a kebab and then served inside of a pita....most picky eaters will still eat souvlaki.  another mild dish is saganaki, the famous "flaming cheese" dish.  lastly i would suggest trying spanakopita or tiropita....these are phyllo dough filled with feta (and spinach in spanakopita).  yum!!! you might want to try some new things while you're there though...the food really is exceptional.  have a great time! oupa!! =D
