Greek friends, why your country fails to control the cheater taxi drivers?

WHY do you complain? taxi drivers are the same all over the world..if you want to understand them ..become a taxi driver then you will understand... just be thank full some body picked you up.. and iam not supporting cheats beacuse i know  there are cheats but also very honest drivers.....and courtious drivers ..my main objective when i get in a cab is that arrive at a decent time at my destination and iam still in one piece. the rest is nither here or there

The taxis in Athens have meters inside them and they are required to give you a receipt after the ride, so unless the drivers dont turn the meters on when the passenger comes in, i dont see how they can cheat on them. But of course they are some cheater drivers that like to take advantage of some tourists, like making a big detour etc.. but they exist everywhere not just Athens you know.

Yes, you are right. I have had many an encounter with taxi drivers, something should be done. I HATE them. Here in New Zealand, there is no comparison.

Same way other countries can't control theirs! People are people all over the world and making a quick 'buck' in whatever way or form is going to happen!

Well i suppose that Goverments can't impose an honesty watchdog, hence it's down to the individuals. Some of whom are honest and some of them are not. Take a SatNav with you and follow the route through this way you can catch them in the act, or get two quotes before entering a Taxi to be on the safe side.
