  1. At the London Conference of 1832, Great Britain, France and Russia (the Great Powers at the time) offered the Greek throne to the 17-year-old Bavarian Prince Otto of the ruling House of Wittelsbach, who became the first King of Greece. Otto was a minor when he arrived in Greece and thus a Council of Regents ruled in his name until 1835, who turned 20 when he became King of Greece.

Succession to the Greek throne and crown was passed on by male-preference primogeniture. An individual's male children are preferred over his or her female children, and an older child is preferred over a younger child of the same gender, with children representing their deceased ancestors.

The Greek monarchy has been abolished by the Greek military junta on June 1, 1973. The current greek royal family does not represent Greece in name or title, they have been in exile and currently living in London, England.

  2. Tje were as old as they happened to be when they were elected (Otto and George I - both 17 at their elelction) or as old as they happened to be when their father died and they inherited (44 - Constantine I; 24 - Constantine II), as old as they were when their father abdicated (24 - Alexander; 32 - George II) or as old as they happened to be when their brother died (45 - Paul).

If a king died and he had no son, his oldest surviving brother took over (Paul).
