Greeks gods and goddesses?

The gods and goddesses were very important to the ancient Greek culture. What do these gods and goddesses really represent to the ancient people of Greece. What made them so important?

The answer to your question is not one that can be short. The greeks believed that these gods and goddesses represented many different aspects in life. They had gods and goddesses of harvest, moon, sun, death, life, war, peace, wisdom, beauty...pretty much every aspect of life was dominated by some god or goddess. They believed that by offering respect and praise in these beings names, they would be rewarded with good harvests and wisdom. Things like that, if things went wrong, they had done something to make the gods and goddesses angry.

The gods and goddess resembled their daily life to the extreme.  Gods and Goddesses had powers and attributes that the greeks in turn wished regular men could pocess.  Like Aphrodite....who wouldn't want to have the power to bewitch a love to loving you back.  Or Hermes people could relate being a messanger god and in many times hated by other gods for sending an "undesirable" message.  Athena was strong and wise.  

The society used these gods and goddesses to help influence and improve their own lives.  If you needed strength and wisdom call upon Athena to bless you, as if you wanted love Aphrodite.

I bet Zeus' most promiscuous nature comes from the greeks themselves living as such. And as a warning of if doing so, look how Zeus himself paid most of the time for fooling around with anything young and beautiful.
