Green Bay Packers 2011 regular season Review: A great season ends on a sad note – NFL Special Part II
At Atlanta
The Atlanta Falcons took a 14-0 lead early in the second period and for a few moments it seemed that the Super Bowl Champions will have their unbeaten run since December 2010 but it wasn’t to be.
Aaron Rodgers started off slowly but when he got going there was no stopping the 28-year-old as he passed for 396-yards sending two touchdowns including a 70-yard rocket towards James Jones.
Kicker Mason Crosby scored four field goals and the Packers remained top of NFC North division and still unbeaten.
Against St. Louis
The St. Louis Rams were no match for the unstoppable Green Bay Packers offence.
The Rams who were already struggling with results this season did not score even a single touchdown as the Packers defence remained solid.
In offence it was the same story as always. Rodgers passed for three touchdowns in the second period as the Packers won easily over a horrible Rams side.
The Rams could muster only a single field goal to show for their effort late in the second period as the Packers won 24-3.
At Minnesota
The Minnesota Vikings gave rookie quarterback Christian Ponder his first start in his NFL career against the Green Bay Packers and the young quarterback handled the pressure well coming closest till now to end the visitors unbeaten run.
The Vikings ended the first half with a 17-13 lead over the Packers but a third period pounding by Green Bay as Rodgers once again sent two touchdown passes to take the lead and Mason Crosby scored two field goals for a 33-17 lead.
The Vikings countered in the fourth quarter as Ponder sent his second touchdown pass to give Minnesota a chance to comeback but it wasn’t to be and the Packers held on for their seventh win of the season.
At Chargers
The Packers visited San Diego Chargers in week nine as they looked to continue their unbeaten run for the season.
The Chargers led by Philip Rivers were a tough prospect but Green Bay Packers had an ace in Aaron Rodgers and the quarterback delivered again.
The Chargers took the lead in the first period as Rivers sent his first touchdown pass but the Packers countered with a touchdown and two interception returns to take a 21-7 lead.
The Chargers however kept pace in the first half of the game as it ended 28-17.
In the third period San Diego kept chipping away at Green Bay’s lead to make it 31-24 but Rodgers started off the fourth on fire with two touchdown passes to make it 45-24.
Rivers countered with two late touchdown passes of his own to spark a comeback bid but they fell well short of the high flying Packers who ran out 45-38 victors.
Against Minnesota
The Vikings went close to beating the Packers in their earlier encounter but this time the Packers defence was ready and in their best performance of the season kept the Vikings offence at bay.
The Vikings, who started with Christian Ponder, were knocked out of contention from the start as Rodgers led the Packers to a first half 17-0 lead.
Rodgers' two-touchdown passes either side of Vikings' running back, Adrian Peterson’s touchdown, ensured victory as Packers racked up a 31-7 lead in the third period.
The Vikings had just a single touchdown to show for their efforts as Ponder was limited to 190 passing yards and Rodgers sent his fourth touchdown pass in the final period to secure a 45-7 win for the unbeaten Packers.
