Green Bay Packers Assistant Head Coach Winston Moss wants Raiders to call - NFL News Update
With the season over for the Green Bay Packers after their shocking knockout in the divisional round of the playoffs, many in the Packers’ coaching staff are looking to move on to bigger opportunities with other franchises who are in need of fresh ideas.
One of those looking for an opportunity to go is Packers’ assistant head coach, Winston Moss, who in an interview with reporters, spoke of his deep affinity with the Oakland Raiders with whom he played as a linebacker.
Moss became nostalgic when discussing his time with the Raiders, calling it the best time of his career and went on record to say that if the Raiders are ever in need of his services, he will be enthusiastic to listen.
“If the Raiders were to call and ask, I'll be ready to speak with them”, said Moss, who also coaches the Packers' inside linebackers.
“But nothing's changed from last week. I feel good where I'm at. If there's an opportunity that comes up in the future, we'll probably cross that bridge at that time. But at this present time, right now, not a lot to talk about. At the time, (owner) Al Davis
was there, Art Shell was my coach," Moss said. "And we had good times. I had some of my better times as a player in the National Football League with the Raiders".
The Oakland Raiders failed to qualify for the playoff rounds and have recently hired ex-Green Bay Packers’ executive, Reggie McKenzie, as their new General Manager, and McKenzie is eyeing the coaching staff at the Packers to fill the vacant head coaching
role.
The Packers went 15-1 in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season on the back of some brilliant offensive performances, securing a first week playoff bye and the first seed of the National Football Conference (NFC).
Favourites to reach a second straight Super Bowl final, the Packers faced the New York Giants in the divisional round and shockingly lost, 37-20, as the offence failed to click in one of the most important fixtures.
Moss is not the only one to be looking at a head coaching role somewhere else with offensive coordinator, Joe Philbin, also on the radar of both the Raiders and Miami Dolphins for their vacant coaching spots.
