Green Bay Packers’ B.J. Raji wants to run the ball
As Green Bay Packers head coach, Mike McCarthy, watched B.J. Raji trample into the end zone off an interception return, he was as pleased and excited as any other fan.
But when he watched the video of the play during the NFC Championship Game against the Chicago Bears, he was able to point out a few errors.
First of all, it’s probably a good idea to keep the ball tucked close to his body until he is actually in the end zone.
Second, he should really take some dancing lessons. What was up with that hip-shaking dance thing that he did to celebrate the touchdown?
"He got two minuses on the play -- one for holding the ball out, and one for the dance". McCarthy joked.
Putting aside the ball handling skills, Raji’s play kept the Bears from coming back in the fourth quarter, as the Bears and their third-string quarterback, Caleb Hanie, almost made a comeback over the Packers.
Raji’s 18 yard interception return was the winning score, which sent the Packers packing to fly down to Texas to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.
"It really kind of happened so quickly that once the game ended, I felt like I was living the dream," Raji said. "Everything slowed down for me. I go in the locker room, and the postgame, the stage is set up. So I'm like, 'Man, this is really happening”.
Now, no one knows what Raji may do next. He’s getting better and better and is trying to get a chance to run the ball.
"I'm more worried about winning," Raji said. "If Coach feels he's giving me the ball to win, I'm very ecstatic about that. If Coach feels he needs me to block so he can run play action stuff or run the ball, I'm fine with that as well. As long as we win,
I'm happy".
Sounds great, B.J, let’s just hope that you can do something just as impressive in Texas on February 6. After all, you’ll have a much bigger target to take down, Ben Roethlisberger. Can you do it?
"He's a very big guy," Raji said. "We played him last year, and we had trouble bringing him down. I think we missed about four or five sacks on him just because he eluded us".
What do you think? Does B.J. “The Freezer” Raji have potential to carry the ball? Leave your ideas and opinions in the comment section!
