Green Bay Packers Clay Matthews seeking redemption by defeating New York Giants next season – NFL News
When the Green Bay Packers started the last National Football League (NFL) season as the defending Super Bowl champions, no one knew what to expect from them in the months to come.
However, the Packs showcased a thundering performance, stunning every observer by outclassing almost every opponent to become the Super Bowl XLVI contender.
Packers won 13 games in a row before losing their first and only game of the regular season and entered the playoffs as the top-seeded team.
As luck would have it, Packers lost their first playoff game against the New York Giants, who surged late in the season and eventually won the Super Bowl XLVI.
Now, Packers’ linebacker, Clay Matthews, who has not got over the loss yet, is seeking redemption by defeating the Giants in the next season.
Giants are going to host Packers at MetLife Stadium for week 12 game of the 2012 NFL season.
Matthews, who did not watch the Super Bowl XLVI game in which Giants defeated the New England Patriots, said:
"I didn't catch the Super Bowl at all, simply because I was on a plane at that time. I don't know if you ever really get over it. I still remember losses from my childhood that you never get over. Fortunately we get to play the Giants again this year and
hopefully have a little redemption."
That being said, Matthews also appreciated Giants for their victories most of which came away from home, and said that Packers also crushed opponents on the latter’s home field when Packers won the Super Bowl XLV.
He said:
"(They) had to go through everyone's backyard and win and that's exactly what they did -- similar to what we did two years ago. So we're just looking forward to getting back out there and hopefully show everyone what we're capable of and that's winning another
Super Bowl."
Packers have dominated majority of the last two seasons, but many observers believe that they will not be able to that for third consecutive season.
The reason is not the decline in their form, but the rise in forms of other teams, which, they think, are capable of giving a tough time to Packers.
