Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers angry at NFC performance in Pro-Bowl - NFL News
For most of the players who make it to the Pro-Bowl it is just another reason to relax and take in the wonderful Hawaii sunshine. That does not cut it for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers who in an interview on Tuesday, January 31st,
2012, was angry at his teammates for their poor performance on Sunday.
The best players of 2011 from the National Football Conference (NFC) took on their colleagues from American Football Conference (AFC) at the Aloha Stadium in Honolulu and Aaron Rodgers who started for the NFC at quarterback, could only watch and see as the
AFC put in a brilliant second half shift to run out 59-41 winners.
The Packers quarterback was not happy with the outcome and in an interview with ESPN made his displeasure known.
"I'll be honest with you," Rodgers said. "I was a little bit disappointed. I felt like some of the guys on the NFC side embarrassed themselves."
The NFC were favourites to lift the Pro-Bowl trophy as they boasted some big names in the line-up including New Orleans Saints record breaking quarterback Drew Brees, Carolina Panthers rookie Cam Newton and other big names.
The game like previous Pro-Bowls lacked intensity and application on part of the players who seemed to be out there just for fun and it drew the ire of fans with boos ringing out with frequency from the stands.
"I was just surprised that some of the guys either didn't want to play or when they were in there didn't put any effort into it," Rodgers said.
Rodgers was careful not to name any names but showed how competitive he is and his winning mentality no matter what the occasion as he even took a meaningless exhibition game with the seriousness of a playoff round match.
The Packers quarterback notched up statistics of 141 yards passing as he passed two scoring touchdowns and completed 13 of his 17 attempted passes.
The game was level on points for most of the first half but in the second Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton took to the field and led the AFC to victory passing for two touchdowns.
His NFC rookie counterpart Cam Newton also came on for the second half but performed horribly unlike in the regular season as he was picked off three times during the game.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall scored four receiving touchdowns to be names the game’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and take home the prized car.
