Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has advice for leaving Matt Flynn on new home - NFL News
When Packers' former quarterback, Matt Flynn took over for the final game of the regular season against Detroit Lions, no one expected the replacement quarterback to outperform Aaron Rodgers.
However, Flynn did just that.
Packers rested most of their starters as the game held no meaning but Lions entered with their first choice line up and looked favourites to give Green Bay their second defeat of the season.
That scenario did not play out as Flynn surprised everyone, throwing six touchdown passes for a total of 480 yards, giving Packers a closely fought 45-41 victory.
Even Rodgers had never thrown six touchdowns in a game and now the Packers' legend has come out to provide advice to the quarterback in choosing a new team to play with.
Rodgers said:
"I think it’s a strong possibility that they [the Dolphins] would make a run at him,"
He further added:
"I think it kind of makes sense. Joe [Philbin] in that system, which I’m sure is going to be very similar to this system, and Matt having a great grasp of that and playing well in his recent opportunities. I think it would kind of make sense to bring Matt
out there."
Rodgers also went on to say that Seattle Seahawks will also make a good destination for the 26-year old who is looking for starting opportunities with a new team.
He said:
"John Schneider knows Matt and he’s pulling some strings up there with them. I think that would be an opportunity for him up there. Those are probably, in my opinion, the two top dogs that would go after him."
Flynn had limited opportunities to play with Packers since Aaron Rodgers was having a Most Valuable Player (MVP) calibre season and there was no point to rest him as Packers tossed opponents aside, one after the other, on their way to the playoffs.
With coaches witnessing Flynn’s amazing potential against a tough Detroit Lions' side, many have expressed an interest in bringing the quarterback to their team.
Packers' season did not end the way they wanted with a second Super Bowl title in a row. The franchise qualified as the first seed in this year’s playoffs after a brilliant 15-1 regular season.
However, they lost to New York Giants in their first playoff game by 37-20 as their offence failed to produce and the team was knocked out.
