Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers honoured after being voted as number one on Top 100 list - NFL News
Many players would have celebrated and parties wildly after being voted as the number one player in the league by their peers but not Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
Voted by players as the best out of the Top 100 Players of 2012 in the National Football League (NFL), Rodgers was his usual humble self when discussing the latest honour to come his way.
Speaking via telephone to the “Top 100” after-show on the NFL Network, Rodgers said that he was humbled to be given the honour and thanked all those who voted for him.
He said:
"It's very humbling, I think it's a great honor anytime you're recognized with professional respect from your peers, that really means a lot to me.”
Adding further he said:
"So I gotta thank them for the votes."
Rodgers remained humble and said that New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady and New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees are the two players that for him are the best and he wants to be able to deliver on their level.
He said:
"I'm fortunate and blessed to have this recognition, but Tom (Brady, No.4 on the list) to me is still that high-water mark that I've been trying to get to."
"And the way that Drew (Brees, No. 2 on the list) has played the last couple of years, especially breaking the record last year, I mean, he was playing incredible. Those are the guy whose careers I'd like to model my own after."
Rodgers had a brilliant 2011 regular season campaign as he led the Green Bay Packers to a 15-1 finish. The franchise only just missed out on a perfect regular season campaign after losing in Week 14 to the Kansas City Chiefs, a game in which Rodgers was
uncharacteristically quiet.
However, the quarterback ended up with 45 touchdown passes and just six interceptions in the season while notching up a league highest passer rating of 122.5.
He also was voted in as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) last year and this latest award is another testament to the quarterback’s brilliant performances.
Green Bay Packers fans will be hoping Rodgers delivers more of the same in 2012 as the franchise targets another push for the Super Bowl.
