Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers saying game is safer than before due to NFL - NFL News
Concussions and player safety is one of biggest issues facing the National Football League (NFL) currently as it faces a multitude of lawsuits from former players who accuse the league of not doing enough.
The NFL is also dealing with the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal in which Saints players were paid cash to make dangerous hits on opponents.
Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers believes that the league has done a lot of things in recent years to improve player safety and help players to recover from injuries.
Speaking at a panel discussion last weekend where he was joined by the likes of New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, and former NFL greats such as Steve Young, Joe Montana and Jim Plunkett, Rodgers said according to the
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
"The protocol for concussions cannot be any more difficult to get back on the field. And I don't know if you've had this, Tom (Brady), but it is incredible the process and the tests you have to go through to get back on the field. So something is being done.
It's unfortunate that we've had to go through some years of learning what those steps look like, but I don't think there's a whole lot more that can be done."
He also went on to say that the helmet he used when he first joined the Packers in 2005 is no longer legal to wear during games and a lot of strides have been made by the league to ensure that the equipment helps protect players.
The quarterback also said that the helmet he now wears helped protect him from at least two concussions last season.
"Having said that, it's a collision sport, and you have to realize that going in. Guys are bigger, stronger and faster every year. But there's not much more you can do to make it safe.”
The NFL under commissioner, Roger Goodell has made moves to make the game safer and heavy punishments are in place for players who make illegal hits and deliberately try to injure opponents.
With the current improvements in safety it is likely that nothing more can be done to make the game safer without changing it completely.
