Green Bay Packers QB Matt Flynn looking forward to free agency - NFL News
Green Bay Packers quarterback Matt Flynn has spent all of his first four years in the National Football League (NFL) as backup to Aaron Rodgers but that situation is about to change starting with free agency in March.
The young quarterback failed to get regular starts with Green Bay due to the impressive form of Aaron Rodgers but now with his contract expiring, Flynn is all set and ready to take a new path in his career.
Speaking in an interview to Sports Illustrated magazine, Flynn could not hide his excitement at the prospect.
"I'm a confident person but the element of the unknown makes you wish March 13 was tomorrow,"
With most franchises looking for a quarterback for the new season, Flynn has many takers and more so after a brilliant performance in the only game he started for Green Bay in the regular season.
The quarterback is prepared and confidently stated that he is ready to lead a team.
“I want to lead a team and I'm excited about it. But I can't talk to teams now. I don't know if I'm on their radar. It's going to be a long month leading up to that time -- waiting and wondering."
Flynn’s would be suitors include Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins and the Seattle Seahawks who have all been struggling lately in offence due to poor performances by their current quarterbacks.
The 26-year-old quarterback started for the Packers against Detroit Lions in the final game of the season and his wonderful performance in that game piqued the interest of many franchises across the league.
Flynn passed for a record six touchdowns during the game, something even elite quarterbacks such as Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers have failed to achieve in their illustrious careers, as Green Bay ran out 45-41 winners.
The 26-year-old completed 31 passes out of 44 attempts for a total of 480-yards and his performance gained him an impressive rating of 136.4.
With no lack of suitors for the young quarterback it will be interesting where Flynn might end up although the Miami Dolphins do have an advantage with ex-Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin now head coach at the franchise.
"My goal is to be one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and all I can ask for is an opportunity to find a good situation with a team that wants me. And then go there and have success."
Flynn now has a great opportunity to showcase his undoubted talent as a NFL starter.
