Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers ready for playoffs - NFL News Update
The Green Bay Packers are enjoying some well earned rest ahead of their playoff divisional round game on January 15, 2012. Quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, however, is not resting on his success and is confident that practice sessions will take care of any rustiness
ahead of the big competition.
The QB was not included in the roster for the regular season finale against playoff contenders, the Detroit Lions, as coach, Mike McCarthy, rested most of his first liner players, but Rodgers believes that he can pick up where he left off when the Packers
take to the field once again.
Talking to the Green Bay Packers' official website, the quarterback said he is not worried a bit about the rust after the long layoff.
"You just have to stay mentally sharp. I think that's the most important thing. You want to stay up on your conditioning. So make sure I do that, got to take a lot of (practice) reps the last couple days so I feel good about where I'm at. I'm not worried
about getting back out there", Rodgers’ said.
Rodgers had one of his best seasons this year and is contending for the Most Valuable Player of the Year Award after helping the Packers finish 15-1 as the team continues its drive for a second straight Super Bowl title.
The Packers were unbeaten for most of the regular season, scoring an average of 35 points per game to offset their weakness in defence, while Rodgers was the key factor in all of Packers' offensive plays.
The quarterback ended the regular season with the second highest number of touchdown passes in the league, 45, and covered a monumental 4,643 passing yards, ranking as the top quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) with a 122.5 rating.
This year Rodgers showed that in addition to being a great quarterback, he also has the ability to become a great offensive coordinator.
Coach, Mike McCarthy, gave him the chance to call some of the offensive plays in the first quarter against the Detroit Lions and Rodgers certainly did not disappoint.
"It's nerve-racking. It's a lot more nerve-racking than playing, to be honest. Matt can attest to that. I was a little bit nervous in the locker room knowing that I was probably going to get a chance to get some calls in there. But when you've got a quarterback
that's in the zone and hot, it makes it a whole lot easier", Rogers added.
Replacement quarterback, Matt Flynn, broke records in just his second start for the franchise in 45-41 Packers victory.
Flynn sent six passing touchdowns during the game, the highest number by any quarterback in a single match. Flynn covered 480 passing yards during the game, completing 31 out of 44 passes.
Rodgers will be back in action next Sunday and with him calling the shots as the quarterback, the Packers remain favourites to lift another Super Bowl Championship.
