Green Bay Packers WR Greg Jennings questions Detroit Lions composure - NFL News
The Detroit Lions were the surprise package last season as they overcame years of poor performances to finally qualify for the playoffs.
With a talented offensive roster and a young team full of energy the Lions this year are among the favourites to once again return to the playoffs.
Last season saw the Lions break their playoff hoodoo with a 10-6 regular season record and making it to the postseason for the first time since 1999.
They did not have much pressure on their shoulders last year but 2012 will be a wholly different as fans will be expecting another big push for the playoffs.
That is something that Green Bay Packers wide receiver, Greg Jennings feels that the Lions would need to manage.
Speaking to the official National Football League (NFL) website on Thursday, Jennings said the Lions can be successful this year only if they maintain their composure.
He said:
"Can they maintain their composure, both on the field and off the field?"
Adding further he said:
"They're a very talented team, but they have struggles on the field containing their composure, and definitely, the things we've heard of, them being in the media with off-the-field problems and off-the-field issues.”
It could be that Jennings is just starting the mind games ahead of the new season.
Detroit Lions are expected to be big rivals for the Packers in the chase for the National Football Conference (NFC) North division championship and Jennings may just be starting to crank up the pressure on the rivals.
He also asked a big question to the Lions:
“Can they maintain their composure? Can they be a professional ball club for 16, 17, 18 solid weeks throughout the regular season?"
This offseason has seen a number of young Lions players being involved in off-the-field incidents with the law and such indiscipline could cost the franchise wins in the upcoming season.
It is now up to Detroit to answer the questions posed by Jennings by performing in the 2012-13 season and meeting the expectations of the fans.
Detroit President, Tom Lewand and general manager, Martin Mayhew both have stated in previous interviews that the target is the Super Bowl and it will be interesting to see how the franchise performs.
