Green Bay Packers WR James Jones dismisses reports of being upset with QB Aaron Rodgers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones got a heated response from quarterback Aaron Rodgers when his pass intended for Jones was intercepted in the fourth quarter of Green Bay’s 23-10 victory over Chicago Bears on Thursday.
Cameras caught Rodgers being angered by the miscommunication when James turned on another route while the quarterback expected him to go the other way.
Jones in an interview with the Packers official website though downplayed the incident and said that the quarterback’s angry response does not affect their close relationship.
He also acknowledged that he was to be blamed for the interception and that he had “messed up”.
The wide receiver said:
“Me and A-Rod are way closer than that to let something like that come in between us. We’re out there trying to win the ballgame. It was my fault. I gave him mixed signals. We’re all emotional out there. I’m not mad at him. We’re trying to win. Get on me.
I messed up.”
Jones also said that frustration with the offence’s struggles may have led to the built up frustration and said that Rodgers had later apologised for his angry response although Jones felt there was no need for the apology.
The wide receiver also praised the Packers Most Valuable Player (MVP) quarterback as a natural born leader.
He said:
“He’s a natural-born leader, not just by what he says but how he carries himself, how he plays the game, how he handles certain situations. Everybody in this locker room looks up to him as a leader. Everybody in this locker room believes in him.”
Green Bay though had an easy victory over their biggest rivals in the National Football League (NFL) as the Packers defence completely shackled the Bears much touted new look offence.
Questions over Green Bay’s offence though remain as the incisiveness of last season has still not been seen in the 2012/13 class.
Hopefully the Packers offence will improve with games. The presence of Aaron Rodgers at quarterback is immense and if he can find his groove from the last season, Green Bay can once again become the unstoppable juggernaut of 2011/12.
