Green Bay Packers crush Dallas Cowboys
At the beginning of the season, the Dallas Cowboys' bandwagon was full. Too much talent on both sides of the ball for it not to be their year. The Super Bowl will be in their backyard. Too many pro bowl
guys to not even think about making it to the championship game. Then somewhere along the bumpy road, the wheels fell off and so did a few fans.
Just when the Cowboys could ill afford to drop another game, the Green Bay Packers crushed the Cowboys 45-7 on Sunday night.
“I think everybody in this country would agree, there's a lot wrong with this team that I've got to address and certainly I'm the one to address it,” said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
The Packers were going against a Dallas team that was so desperate for a win, but had yet to sort out their offensive situation with starting quarterback Tony Romo sidelined for another four weeks. Backup
John Kitna is no slouch and has been around the NFL long enough to have a few tricks up his sleeve, but nothing seemed to be working for Dallas.
Dallas (1-7) fell behind 28-0 late in the second quarter, when Aaron Rodgers tossed touchdown strikes to Brandon Jackson, James Jones, and Greg Jennings. Jackson also added a rushing TD and carried the
ball 13 times for 42 yards.
Kitna, who threw for 183 yards, finally got Dallas on the board right before halftime, connecting in the end zone with rookie receiver Dez Bryant. Bryant led all receivers in the game with nine receptions
for 86 yards. He was Dallas’ lone offensive threat as the rest of the team combined for 10 catches.
Led by Clay Matthews, Green Bay dominated the game and shut down the Cowboys running game. The Packers have struggled as of late, but when the defence is completely healthy they are a difficult team to
beat. Matthews and company yielded just 39 rushing yards. Matthews has been making a solid case for defensive player of the year since the start of the season. He finished with one sack and an interception which was returned 62 yards for a touchdown.
The 6-3 Packers have won three straight games and are finally playing up to their potential. Rodgers, who completed 27 of 34 attempts for 289 yards and three scores, has really matured over the weeks
and is playing mistake-free football.
"There's a lot of confidence in that locker room," Rodgers said. "We were 3-3 coming off two straight losses in overtime -- there were definitely some doubts creeping in, wondering what the last 10 would
hold for us and realizing that we had to make a push here."
