Green Bay Packers end Houston Texans unbeaten run with 42-24 demolition - NFL Recap
The Houston Texans saw their unbeaten run end after the Green Bay Packers offence finally got in the groove to destroy the home team 42-24 on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
Defeat for Houston now leaves Atlanta Falcons as the only unbeaten team in the National Football League (NFL) this season.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers finally found his mojo again as he passed for 338 yards and six touchdowns to decimate the Texans defence and lead the Packers to a morale boosting victory.
This was a big win for Green Bay who now move up to 3-3 and get back into the race for the NFC North division title after what was an inconsistent start to the season.
Wide receivers Jordy Nelson and James Jones clicked on their runs after facing criticism with Nelson catching three touchdown passes while Jones followed with two.
Speaking after the game Rodgers looked in high spirits and was happy that the Packers avoided going down 2-4 for the first time since 2006.
He said:
“This was an important game for us. We had a couple not go our way, games we should have won and 2-4 would have been very difficult."
Adding further he said:
"This is just a team that has a lot of pride in our locker room. I said it this week, there's not any quit in that locker room. It's almost better when people are doubting us a little bit, I think. We kind of band together. People tried to pull us apart this week and we stuck together and found our motivation."
Green Bay scored in all four quarters of the game with 14 points apiece coming in the first and last quarters.
Defence also played a big role for the Packers intercepting two passes from Texans quarterback Matt Schaub and one from T.J Yates who came on later.
The Texans chased the game throughout as Rodgers went riot.
Their offence did not perform with running back Arian Foster held for just 29 yards although he did score two touchdowns.
Texans head coach Gary Kubiak spoke of Rodgers after the game and said:
"He put on a show tonight.”
Houston’s defence missed linebacker Brian Cushing’s presence on the field and remained under pressure from Rodgers throughout the game with the quarterback throwing big play passes with little difficulty.
Rodgers once again showed why he was named the league’s MVP last year in this game and proved all doubters wrong with a brilliant showing.
He will hope to continue like this now for the rest of the season to help Green Bay to another big season.
The Packers are a formidable team and when their offence clicks into gear no team can stand against them.
