Green Bay Packers fan spends $240k on trip to watch team lose 37-20 to New York Giants - NFL News
The Green Bay Packers shocking 37-20 defeat on Sunday against the New York Giants, in the divisional round of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) playoffs, may have hurt Packers’ fans emotionally, but one fan, Peter Serafin, will have more regrets than
just his team losing.
The avid Packers' fan and Wall Street businessman spent a humongous amount, $240,000, at a time when the American economy is under one of the worst recessions in history, on a road trip to the Lambeau Field to watch his beloved team, Green Bay Packers.
The fan might have taken the defeat to heart because of the fact that the Packers had lost just once in the season and like many others, he believed that his favourite team will easily reach Super Bowl XLVI.
However, since the National Football League is highly unpredictable, Serafin would have seen the New York Giants playing brilliantly to keep Packers' high-octane offence at bay, while taking full advantage of their weak defence to knock out the defending
Super Bowl champions, and set up a mouth watering clash on January 22 against the San Francisco 49ers for the National Football Conference (NFC) title.
Before making his expensive trip to Lambeau Field, the die-hard fan spoke to curious reporters and believed he was living a dream.
In an interview with the New York Post, Serafin stated:
"It's exciting, I can't wait. I wish I was in Green Bay tailgating right now. It's like a dream come true".
The Packers' fan travelled to Green Bay in a luxury caravan with five friends, who unluckily for Serafin were all New York Giants' fans, while also accompanied by two waitresses and the chief chef of the Old Homestead Steakhouse which had come up with the
whole package.
The caravan was filled to the brim with food and drinks with 150 pounds of prime beef, 65 beef burgers, ten lobsters and 100 gallons of beer plus 26 bottles of champagne.
The six friends also had the best seats at the Lambeau Field which provided a full view of the action.
It all went horribly wrong for the Packers' fan as his high investment turned out to be nothing, as Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' offence failed to overcome a dogging New York Giants' defence turning over the ball frequently, and in the process, getting
knocked out of playoff contention.
Serafin will now return to New York and the return trip will be a nightmare as his friends now have ample time to rag him on the way home.
Moreover, his wife will not be too pleased with Serafin missing their 28th wedding anniversary to go on such an expensive trip, leaving her alone at home.
The businessman will now think twice about making such a decision in the future.
