Green Bay Packers guard T.J. Lang has fun with his teammates after getting a new deal – NFL News
When Green Bay Packers guard T.J. Lang signed a deal on Monday, August 13, 2012, many believed that the training session the next day would be normal. Yet, it was a totally different matter as Lang’s teammates started having fun on the occasion.
Media reporters encircled Lang near his locker after the practice session on Tuesday afternoon. Behind Lang was his teammate Jeff Saturday who joked about Lang getting a big money deal, he said:
"Ask him about the Brinks truck, I heard it beeping!"
Following his remarks, Saturday also gave some suggestions about what should be the opening sentence his interview. He suggested saying “I’m rich”.
Lang’s new four-year deal is reportedly valued around $21 million, with $5.5 million in signing bonus.
Lang spent his first two seasons lingering around different positions on the defensive line. Last season, he finally settled at the left guard position.
Following the humorous atmosphere during the interview, Lang said:
"Most of those guys have more money than I do, so I don't know why they're ragging on me. It was a fun day. Coming in this morning, I was excited to get upstairs and sign the deal. Even though my teammates like to give me a hard time, they're all supportive.”
Lang admitted that he had become a more matured player now after playing three seasons in the league.
He reiterated the fact that having a lavish life at such a young age was a recipe for a disaster. He thinks that he is fortunate enough to come back from bad habits and focus on his career.
"I was 21, living downtown, going out three, four nights a week sometimes, I didn't think it was a problem back then, but looking back, it's like I'm lucky to still be here."
Before Lang, the Packers had also given a long-term deal to guard guard Josh Sitton.
Lang was drafted by Packers in the fourth round of the 2009 draft. He started all the games for Packers last season.
