Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy not happy with team’s tackling – NFL News
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is not satisfied with team’s tackling in last game against Minnesota Vikings.
On Monday, McCarthy shared his views about the performance of his defence and said, according to the team’s website:
“We have definitely increased our tackling production, but yesterday was not where we need to be. We had a couple times we had two, three missed tackles on a play, and we need to do a better job there.”
Packers could not tackle Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in the game.
He has become the first player in National Football League (NFL) with pair of games of 200 or more yards rushing and an average of at least 10 yards per carry for the game. It was the third time that a player gained most yardages against Packers.
According to McCarthy, giving a chance to the player for gaining this much yardage does not work in favour of his team.
He said:
“I don’t care who’s in the backfield. You can’t go out and give up over 200 yards rushing and say we stopped them 18, 19 times but on these three runs he had 160,”
Guard T.J. Lang left the field in the second quarter due to his ankle injury; rookie right tackle Don Barclay replaced him for the rest of the game.
McCarthy called Barclay a physical and technical player, who played really well in the game.
He said of Barclay:
“When a rookie comes in for his first time in game action and you’re able to keep playing throughout your game plan, I think that’s a big credit to him.”
He did not consider Lang’s and wide receiver Jordy Nelson’s hamstring injury serious. He will press Nelson for playing the next game against Detroit Lions.
According to McCarthy, kicker Mason Crosby can play a big part for the team at the end of the season. He kicked three field goals for 30, 47 and 31 yards respectively in the last game.
He was satisfied with the performance of Crosby, but he wants Crosby to make big kicks to win more games.
