Green Bay Packers players hail timely bye week - NFL News
The Green Bay Packers are facing a long injury list after their gruelling first eight games of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season took a heavy toll on the roster.
Many of the Packers main players are injured and the franchise is pleased that it will sit out the grind this week giving players much needed time to rest and recuperate.
The bye week could not have come at a better time for Green Bay who lost three more players last Sunday after a 31-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals their fourth straight win in a row.
Defenseman Clay Matthews, wide receiver, Jordy Nelson and offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga went off injured against the Cardinals, joining receiver Greg Jennings, defensive back Charles Woodson and running back Cedric Benson on the treatment table in addition
to many more.
The roster has been completely ravaged by the injuries and the Packers needed the bye week more than any other team as five of their last seven games of the season after the bye week are against NFC North division rivals.
According to ESPN Green Bay’s players are looking forward to recuperating during the long time off as they hope to get back to strength.
Defensive tackle Ryan Pickett said the bye week will provide time for those on the injured list to regain fitness for the games ahead:
"We need the physical rest, get our bodies back. We've got two weeks to get them right, get them closer to playing. And guys that have been hurt before that, we have a chance to get them back. So this bye is at the perfect time, the ideal time for us.”
Defensive coordinator Dom Capers also commented:
"When you have five of seven, we're going to get a heavy dose of guys who know a lot about us and we know a lot about them. That's always a challenge. You've got to put extra effort in the preparation. There's always a little more intensity that comes with
division games. It'll start right as soon as we get back."
The Packers will hope that they get as many of their players back to fitness as they can with Capers also holding out hope that Matthews who leads the Packers in sacks this season can get back to fitness soon.
