Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy lavishes praise on WR Donald Driver - NFL News
Green Bay Packers president, Mark Murphy, on Wednesday shed some light over the future of wide receiver, Donald Driver, and said that the veteran will join his teammates to take part in the team’s voluntary organised team activities (OTAs) next week.
Driver’s contract situation with the Packers is still undecided with no confirmation on whether the franchise will keep the wide receiver for another year.
If the franchise does not release the veteran they will activate a clause in his contract which guarantees him earnings of $ 5 million in the upcoming season.
Speaking at sports conference at St. Norbert College, Murphy did not go into the details of whether the wide receiver will remain at the franchise but instead chose to praise his recent achievement on the dance floor.
"To win it was great. From a Packers perspective, I couldn't be more proud the way he represents the Packers. He's really just a pretty remarkable person."
Driver on Tuesday was named the winner of ABC Network’s reality television show, Dancing with the Stars, along with partner, Peta Murgatroyd.
Murphy continued his praise of Driver and said.
"I think people are excited to see him. Obviously, I think all of his teammates will probably give him some good-natured ribbing. But, also, I know everybody's really pleased and happy for him."
The wide receiver has had a long and illustrious career spending all 13 years of his National Football League (NFL) career with the Packers.
Driver has participated in three Pro-Bowl events and won his first Super Bowl title in 2010 and now he has gained another achievement with the glittering Dancing with the Stars trophy.
The veteran has always maintained that he wants to end his career with Green Bay and it is now up to the franchise to keep him in the roster.
Even with his declining productivity on the field last year, fans want the veteran to return back to Lambeau Field for the upcoming season.
Driver made 37 receptions last season for a gain of 445 yards and scored six touchdowns.
The $ 5 million he is set to earn in the upcoming season is the biggest roadblock for the Packers but hopefully fans will see their favourite player once again take to the field in Green Bay’s green and gold uniform.
