Green Bay Packers promote Ben McAdoo to quarterbacks coach, hire Alex Van Pelt to train RB's - NFL News
Green Bay Packers are shuffling around their coaching staff this off-season as they start preparations for the new 2012-13 season.
According to sources, the Packers on Monday, February 13th, 2012 promoted tight-ends coach Ben McAdoo to the role of quarterbacks coach and have added ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt to the role of running backs coach.
The news comes on the back of the promotion of previous quarterbacks coach Mike Tice to the role of offensive coordinator following the resignation of Joe Philbin, who has now moved on to become head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
The promotion of McAdoo to work with Aaron Rodgers and Matt Flynn in the training ground was known as Green Bay successfully denied chances to Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins for interviewing the coach for the position of offensive coordinator.
The Green Bay Packers had a brilliant 2011-12 regular season which unluckily for the team ended on a sour note.
The Packers, qualified for the playoffs as the first seeded team in the National Football Conference (NFC) as quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay’s offensive line combined to push the franchise to a 15-1 season.
Green Bay could have gone the entire year unbeaten had it not been for a 19-14 defeat in week 15 by the Kansas City Chiefs who finally halted the Packers juggernaut.
With Rodgers firing on all cylinders, Green Bay was many fans and analysts favourites to once again reach the Super Bowl and successfully defend their title.
However, it wasn’t meant to be.
Eli Manning and the New York Giants came to Lambeau Field and surprised everyone with a wonderful performance in defence which nullified Rodgers threat.
Manning led the Giants offence forward and his brilliant performance in that game knocked out Green Bay from the playoffs with the Giants running out comfortable 37-20 winners.
New York would go on to claim the Super Bowl XLVI title while the Packers were left to rue what could have been.
Now with Green Bay rebuilding, the franchise will remain the favourites once again as they retain some of the best offensive talent in the league.
