Green Bay Packers raise prices by $3 to $5 for 2012-13 season - NFL News
Green Bay Packers announced on Thursday, in a statement from CEO Mark Murphy, that they will be increasing ticket prices for game days at the iconic Lambeau Field stadium for the 2012 season.
The Packers are looking into an increase of $3 to $5 in prices for seats at the stadium.
The fans will not mind the nominal increase in prices and a waiting list of 96,000 people is testament to the fact that Green Bay Packers' continued success on the field will keep fans happy enough to part with more of their hard-earned money.
Packers' president and CEO, Mark Murphy said:
“For the Packers, ticket revenue continues be an important component of our ability to remain financially competitive with the other 31 NFL teams."
Adding further, he elaborated:
“Our goal each year is to be at the league average in terms of our ticket prices. This increase maintains our position near the league average.”
Green Bay Packers had this year also released around 250,000 shares of stock in the franchise to individual fans as they sought to raise money for a planned expansion to the Lambeau Field to deliver a better game day experience.
The stock sale was snapped up by eager fans by the droves and the brilliant response forced Green Bay to release a further 30,000 shares for the eager public.
The stock which has no resale value and does not provide any kind of benefit to the owner other than a signed certificate was available for $250 from the official Green Bay website and the lack of returns did not deter fans.
Murphy also provided an update on the current expansion of Lambeau Field, which will add an additional 6,700 seats to the stadium while also installing state of the art video boards and sound system and two new gates.
“Our investment in the stadium will continue to provide value to the top-rated game-day experience at Lambeau Field,” Murphy said.
Green Bay had a brilliant 2011-12 regular season with a 15-1 record but it all ended in disappointment as the Packers were knocked out in their first match of the playoffs by eventual Super Bowl winners, New York Giants.
The defeat was surprising since Green Bay were the favourites on odds to successfully defend their title, however, that scenario did not play out.
The Packers will look to return back to Super Bowl glory in the upcoming 2012-13 season and with the fans firmly behind the team, they will be one of the teams to watch out for.
