Green Bay Packers receivers frustrated with criticism - NFL News
Green Bay Packers receivers have been criticised recently for the team’s haphazard performance during the first five games of the 2012/13 season.
The Packers are 2-3 this year a far cry from their unbeaten start last season. Aaron Rodgers has not performed at the same level that he displayed during his MVP winning season with the quarterback getting sacked a massive 21 times in just the first five
games.
Offensive line seems the biggest problem for Green Bay as Rodgers is the second most sacked quarterback in the league this year but some of the criticism has now been extended to the Packers wide receivers.
Critics blame Green Bay’s receivers such as James Jones, Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb and tight ends for not finding open positions quickly enough leaving Rodgers holding onto the ball for too long.
The Packers receivers though have hit back at the criticism levelled against them and in an interview with
Fox Sports Wisconsin the receivers deny that they are getting jammed.
James Jones in the interview hit back at the criticism levelled against the receiver corps and said that he had studied the film which showed that the receivers were doing their jobs.
He said:
"They say the wide receivers are getting jammed up, (and) it's definitely not true. If you turn on the film, we're 30 yards, 40 yards down the field every time. We're not getting jammed up. I don't know who started that rumour."
Adding further he said:
"It hurts pride-wise when you hear the outsiders saying the receivers and stuff are getting jammed up. We work hard during the week and the offseason for people to say that. Especially if it's not happening. If it was happening, I would take it as a man
and say, 'Yeah, we're getting beat up.' It's not really happening."
Greg Jennings agreed with Jones’ assessments and said that the criticism was frustrating to listen too since they have been doing their jobs.
The Packers offence is not performing its duties poorly but it’s not the same juggernaut everyone witnessed in 2011.
Green Bay are currently third in the NFC North Division and the offence will be hoping that their performance picks up in week 6 against the Houston Texans.
