Green Bay Packers still can't shake off spectre of playoff defeat - NFL News
The Green Bay Packers have six players taking part in the prestigious Pro-Bowl event in Hawaii but they would rather be in Indianapolis preparing for the Super Bowl and the players and coach Mike McCarthy are still hurting from their shocking defeat to New
York Giants in the playoffs.
Green Bay were knocked out in their first game of the postseason. The Packers who qualified as the first seed and had a one week playoff bye, faced a determined New York Giants' side.
Surprisingly for an offence that outscored each and every opponent before this game, the Packers were inexplicably subdued with Giants defensemen containing one of the fiercest offensive lines in the league.
Green Bay Packers ended the 2011-12 regular season with a 15-1 record and were favourites to easily push for the Super Bowl XLVI on the back of some brilliant performances from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers who is line for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award was phenomenal throughout the regular season.
The 28-year-old quarterback passed for a total of 45 touchdowns and covered 4,643 yards and played a huge role in the Packers brilliant season.
Rodgers 122.5 quarterback rating set a new record in the National Football League (NFL) history books and in 17-games had only six interceptions.
The quarterback however, is concentrating only on the Pro-Bowl for now and said that he will reflect more on this season after the game.
"I think that's going to happen once I leave here and the offseason really starts, it'll be time to reflect on that.”
Cornerback Charles Woodson too cannot get the defeat out of his head and has already started reflecting on the reasons for the loss.
"If you watch that game, my feeling is that they just wanted it more than we did, I think about one play, and I think about that Hail Mary. I go over it in my head and see the clips on ESPN and different sports shows and see the lack of effort from our team
to get that ball intercepted or knock it down."
Coach Mike McCarthy is in Hawaii to coach the National Football Conference (NFC) side for Sunday’s main event but he would rather be in Indianapolis than enjoy the Islands natural beauty and preparing his team for the Super Bowl.
"Just like every team in the NFL, there's only one team that's going to be satisfied when the season is completed. We won't be that team this year,"
The Pro-Bowl is an annual fixture pitting the best players from NFC and American Football Conference (AFC) against each other.
