Green Bay Packers unsure of safety Nick Collins return from injury - NFL News
Green Bay Packers safety, Nick Collins had his 2011-12 season cut short after a neck injury in the week 2 game against Carolina Panthers. Now after so many months on the sideline the safety has still not recovered enough to get back in the game.
Collins suffered what could become a career ending injury and underwent surgery last year in September, however, his playing future still remains up in the air.
Packers’ general manager, Ted Thompson says that the franchise continues to wait and see over Collins rehabilitation and they are still not sure if he can ever return back on the field.
Speaking at a pre-draft press conference Thompson said.
"It's a process that continues. We don't have any determination at this point.”
Green Bay could draft a new safety in the upcoming drafts which take place on April 26th to replace the injured Collins but Thompson does not have any such plans as he feels the team remains balanced and they do not want to focus on an individual
position.
"We feel like our roster is balanced enough overall. We don't feel we have to target a particular position in the draft. That's not what we do, and we won't do it this year."
Collins was missed at safety by the Packers but it did not affect their performance in the regular season as they ended with a 15-1 record.
The Packers offence led by current Most Valuable Player (MVP) quarterback Aaron Rodgers always managed to out-score opponents even with a defence that struggled to keep the opposition at bay.
The franchise remained undefeated for most of the season and their juggernaut was only stopped from ending with a 16-0 record due to a week 15 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, Green Bay entered the playoffs as the number one seed qualifying directly for the divisional rounds and with home field advantage.
The franchise though could not bring their regular season form into the playoffs after being defeated in an upset at Lambeau Field against the eventual Super Bowl winners New York Giants.
This season they will once again be favourites to return to the Super Bowl as they still boast one of the most talented rosters in the league.
