Question:

Green Card through marriage?

I entered the US illegally when I was in 6th grade because of my parents. My father never decided to legalize me even when it was easier when I entered. He is now a resident and I am still illegal. I entered back in '96. He did submit a request back in 2001 but i was denied, the reason was that I was unable to change status at the time. I am now 23 and have graduated from college with a BA. I met someone I truly love and we have known each other since 2002, we are now engaged and are going to get married possibly next year. Would I have to go back to Mexico to get a visa before we can begin the paperwork? Should we get married before or after, in case I should have to go to Mexico?

  1. Maybe but u have to have something to contribute to be considered worthy of the green card. 35 million people wanna get into the US every year. Thats ur competition

  2. how are you studying in usa?

well, if you have a student visa, yes you have  to go back to mexico and start all the process from there, but she can always bring you here with a fiance visa.

they are probably check if you have lived in usa before and based on that they will take a decision but since you came to  usa while being a child there should not be a problem.

    go ahead!!

    or also contact  www.uscis.gov

    look for an immigration lawyer!

  3. since you are an illegal,  you might have to go back to Mexico to adjust status. if you adjust status while here in the US, you might be banned from the country for 10 yrs.

  4. No you can get married. My dad's wife is illegal. My dad is a citizen. She is going through the paperwork to get legalized. They will probably make you pay back taxes. (thats what she had to do)
